How to "Fear Not" This October at Your Church

1

SIDEKICK Fear2

With Halloween being on the 31st, the month of October is often associated with fear. The month is full scary stories, movies and tv shows that keep people jumping out of their seats. It can be a terrifying month for people.

With October being a month that people are scared and stressed, it provides a unique opportunity for Churches. In fact, here are some phygital and online ways your Church can use the month of October to help combat fear that people may feel.

  • Host a "Fear Not" sermon series about trusting God instead of giving into fear. Share the sermon and clips online and on different social media platforms throughout the week to encourage people.
  • Have testimonies of people who have overcome fear by relying on God. You can post these on digital platforms like YouTube, podcasts and other social media platforms. Sharing their stories on platforms people are on can encourage others facing fear whether they go to your Church or not.
  • Hold a prayer gathering focused on praying against fear, anxiety, and worry. You can do this in person or you can do this on Zoom or host a Facebook Live where people share their prayer requests with you and you pray for them at that moment.
  • Share Bible passages that counter fear. Verses like Psalm 23:4 and John 14:27 are especially powerful. You can do this on your social media platforms and encourage digital missionaries and others to share these scriptures throughout the month. You can also use a texting platform
  • Share a Bible Reading Plan for families to do together via email, text or website. This is a great way to partner with parents to help them be the spiritual head of their families. Send a daily Bible reading, devotional and prayer.
  • Share stories of Christians who courageously faced fear, like martyrs and missionaries. Their bold faith can inspire others. You can share these stories as blog posts.
  • In addition to having a sermon series on overcoming fears, incorporate video devotionals and podcasts where you can you encourage people throughout the week. Share messages of hope, comfort, power, love - all aspects of God's character that cast out fear.

Conclusion

The month of October can be terrifying for people and families. Use a variety of digital, online and phygitial outlets to encourage people at your Church and in your community with hope, courage and stories of faith this month.
