Winter officially starts December 21st and ends March 19th. It happens every year. And while Christmas is always on the front end of the winter months, these months can be hard and challenging. It's cold, dark and with the start of the new year, it can be a time of reflection about life. A life that isn't always wonderful.

As a Church, this provides you a really great opportunity to minister to your community. One of the ways you can do that is by blogging. Blogging is still a very important way to share content online as it really helps with search engine optimization (SEO). See, when someone types in a question or is searching something on Google, your Church and the blog post you have written could pop up and encourage someone. That is why blogging can still be a great piece of content that your Church can do regularly.

So, what kinds of blog posts can your Church make over the winter months? How can you encourage people? Here are 5 different ways.

  • New Year Resolutions. With the new year comes new hopes and opportunities. Share resolutions your staff are making and also challenge people to make resolutions that are faith driven. Challenge them to use this year as an opportunity for them to grow spiritually in a way unlike any other year. You could even do a few follow up posts encouraging them to follow through with their faith resolutions.
  • Devotionals. Churches can share devotionals in a variety of ways and all are important. They can share audio podcast, video and even written devotionals. The great opportunity you have with blogging is that you can link an audio or video devotional within your blog that will help for you to easily get that out to people and gain powerful SEO for your site. Answer questions people are asking about faith and share life lessons from the Bible and how they apply today. Most importantly make them practical and provide a way for people to connect with your Church. Writing devotional blogs posts are a great way for you to engage people by encouraging them in their faith,
  • Music recommendations. At the Grammys there are tons of music honored and celebrated. While some people may know some of the music highlighted, they won't know everything, especially from the Christmas music scene. The Grammys are typically held in February. During the lead up to the Grammy's highlight some of the Grammy nominated Christian songs, You can even highlight past Grammy songs or staff favorites.
  • Movie Recommendations. The Oscars are in March. When they happen, people are thinking about movies and what they have seen and not seen. This is your opportunity to highlight some family friendly movies people can watch and any good thought provoking movies that may be out there. You can even highlight Christian based movies. Now, they are not always very well done, but there are some out there that would be good to recommend to families. If you do a "Movie Series" for your Church, this could be a great time to do it and then blog about why you choose those movies for your series.
  • Service Opportunities in Your Community. The winter provides unique opportunities to serve your local community. Share those opportunities with people at your Church as a way to mobilize and encourage people to be serving outside of the Church to share the love of Christ with others.

What do you think? What are some other winter blog posts your Church can do?  Share your ideas below or on social media.
