Using Digital Tools for Ministry Leadership Training and Development

As ministers and followers of Christ, one of our primary responsibilities is to guide and lead others to Christ. However, effective leadership goes beyond delivering sermons and Bible studies. It means to continue train and equip people to take next steps in their faith and to grow as leaders.
The great news about this is that today's world is increasingly digital. We have access to so many tools and resources that can help us grow in our leadership training and faith. They are right at the tip of our fingers. Using digital and online tools can help equip us and others at our Church or in our ministries with the necessary skills and insights necessary to follow Christ more and effectively inspire growth in our faith in our local and online communities.
Digital Tools You Can Use
- Zoom. This is great for one-on-one discipleship meetings, online small groups or leadership training. Doing these meetings on Zoom (or a similar platform) saves people time by staying at home rather than traveling to come to an in-person meeting, and enables people outside of your local community from participating.
- Online Bible Studies and Leadership Classes. Whether these studies or classes are on a social media platform like Facebook Groups, part of a text group on apps like Signal or What's App, or in apps like the Bible App, you have an opportunity to encourage people on platforms that they carry around on their smartphone. It enables you to have daily interactions with people to encourage them in their faith and grow as ministry leaders. If they have a question or are processing something out, they can message the group (or you) directly.
- Social Media. Social media is the perfect place for ministry leaders to be digital missionaries. People of all beliefs are on social media and it gives ministry leaders and believers the opportunity to take what they have learned in their faith and share it with others, hoping to stir up spiritual conversations.
- YouTube. Through platforms like YouTube you can do two things. One is to embrace it as way to encourage believers by sharing short-form or long-form devotionals. Secondly, you can create training videos for your ministry leaders. You can set the video as private or unlisted and share it to them so that they can get training on their own time rather than to come to an in-person meeting.
Conclusion
As ministry leaders, it is part of your duty to effectively train and equip people in their faith and help them grow as leaders. Embracing digital tools for this is a smart and effective way to do this. It's not the only way, but a great asset to utilize in order to help others learn on their own time. In addition, having these tools helps each ministry leader save time by creating reproducible content that can help others by using platforms like YouTube. Embrace these and other digital tools to help the people you are interacting with and engaging for growth in their faith and leadership development.
