CES is one of the most influential technology events in the world. Every January the worlds biggest brands come together to reveal breakthroughs in technology. With technology always changing and adapting, sometimes there are major changes and updates and sometimes there are minor ones.

This year, at CES 2023, there were more minor updates and changes but, there were still some great advancements. Here are three updates and takeaways from the event that have direct ministry implications.

Smart Home Devices Continue to Evolve

What first started out as light bulbs and light switches has now evolved to more smart home devices. For instance, smart vacuums are not new. However, there are more advanced smart vacuum cleaners that operate as a vacuum cleaner and mop. This is perfect for rooms at your Church that you can set a timer for and have it automatically clean up after an event, Another example is multicolor lights that would really help create a great environment for a youth group room,

Safety for Youth Leaders and Students

Ministry happens a lot outside of the Church building. Especially in youth ministry. In fact, youth leaders need to spend time with youth outside of Church to reach people for Christ. That means that at time youth leaders will drive students to youth events or for contact work opportunities. When that happens, having a Ring Car Cam enables a youth leader to have youth or a group of students in the same vehicle with him or her. It adds a layer of protection for the youth leader and the youth so that no one can make any accusations about inappropriate behavior.

Upgrades to Laptops

Laptops have become very similar to smartphones these days. There are not a lot a major "wow"s and upgrades. There are just incremental upgrades to good and necessary devices. However, the HP Dragonfly Pro Chromebook is a premium Chromebook is noteworthy and should be checked out. Otherwise, check out the 2020 or 2021 computer lineups as you can see some really strong computers still for a cheaper price.

Conclusion

While CES may not have had any major splashes this year, they had a lot advancement in technology. As technology continues to have major and minor advancements, there will be plenty of ways that ministries can use the technology to help create environments for people to hear about God. Here are just three, but there are likely more. Take a look at other releases and see how you might use these advancements for ministry purposes.
