3 Social Media Trends to be Looking at

Written by Tom Pounder | May 18, 2022 11:00:00 AM

Social media is always changing. What is hot one day, is ice cold the next. My Space, Vine and Clubhouse all used to dominate in some area at some time. Now, when these networks are mentioned a lot of people just laugh about them. So it is always great to stay up-to-date and current about the latest trends on social media.

So what is trending now? What are people into and how can it help your Church? Here are 4 social media trends to be looking at right now.

1. TikTok continues to grow. In fact, TikTok is more popular amongst Gen Z than Instagram. And while it is still behind Snapchat, it is project to be even with them by 2025. But TikTok isn't just popular amongst Gen Z. In the first quarter of 2021, 36% of TikTok users were between 35 and 54 years old, That is up from 20% in 2020. TikTok is growing and it provides a great opportunity of ministries and Churches.

2. Video content is a primary source of content. According to a Cisco study, 82% of all online content will be video based. Whether it is short form or long form video content, content that you share on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram or TikTok, or content that you use for training and equipping of your ministry teams, there is so much you can do with video content that will enable you to get your message out to your online community.

3. Being on social media is great "brand awareness". According to the 2022 Social Media Marketing Industry Report by Social Media Examiner, 85% of all marketers  surveyed indicated that their social media efforts have generated more exposure for their businesses. Now, Churches are not businesses or brands but this stat shows that being on social media and the exposure they are getting has helped their business. In the same way, being on social media and engaging with people online can create great "Church awareness". People can learn more about your Church by you investing in and being on social media.

Social media trends are constantly happening. What is something you should latch onto and pursue and what is something that won't pan out? You never fully know but the 3 trends highlighted above have stats that completely back them up. They are not fas. They are trends that will continue to shape how we consume and create content. Is your Church invested in social media this way? If not, what can you do today to start? The more you can do today the greater your chances are at reaching people for Christ, as well.
