TikTok Tips for Your Church

0

TikTok

TikTok has become a huge topic of conversation over the past few years. Is TikTok evil? Is it part of a Chinese conspiracy? Should we ban it? While people debate the politics of it, the reality is that it has become a major social media platform since the beginning of the pandemic. It has become so popular that Churches have been using it to reach people for Christ.

But how do you use TikTok? What are some tips you can use so that you are maximizing your presence on it and reach people for Christ? Here are some tips.

Focus on Consistency.  Everyone wants to go Viral.  While there are many "tricks" you can do that could help you go viral, there is no quarentee that if you do x, y, x matters. This is true of all social media but in particular with TikTok. However, one thing that is guaranteed is that if you focus on producing consistent content, TikTok will reward you and get your videos out to more people. It doesn't have to be multiple times a day or even posting daily, but develop a rhythm that is good for you.

Videos OVER One Minute tend to do Better. TikTok started off as just 1 minute videos. However, they have been pushing longer form videos for a while. Many accounts can post 3 minute and 10 minute videos. And, since TikTok would like you to watch more videos for longer period of times, they are promoting and encourage creators to share longer form videos.

Focus on Your Audience. You cannot be all things to all people. The same goes for your content. You aren't going to be able to produce the kind of content that every single person will like. So focus on your target audience and make videos and content that is geared towards them. If you do, you will reach more people.

Be Authentic and Real. One of the things Covid taught us was that people want real and authentic people doing and sharing about real and authentic things. People want to hear from real people, not highly produced videos from people with scripts (see more below).

High Production doesn't Guarantee High Results. In fact, the Tennessee Titans did an interesting test during their revealing of their upcoming football schedule. They made two videos. One was highly produced and the other one was more authentic with more authentic value. The results were that the more authentic, lower produced videos went viral and the highly produced video didn't even come close to going viral.

Use Hashtags. Just like with Twitter, TikTok is a platform where organic reach is still very possible. So, use trending hashtags and some others that speak to the topic of your video to expand your reach. For example, if you are doing a devotional TikTok about love, use the hashtag #love or #loveothers.

Conclusion

TikTok is extremely popular and unless a ban takes place, it will continue to be a place people go, share content and build community on. These are some of the helpful tricks and strategies that can help you maximize the impact of your videos. Try them out and see what kind of impact you can have on TikTok.
